We have to share some news for Victoria Hall and for Lampeter.. It’s been over 3 years of hard work and sheer stubbornness that has kept this dream alive, but today we heard that our application to provide £160,000 funding for kitting out Lampeter’s Victoria Hall as a community arts venue has been approved.
Over this summer we will be buying and installing the equipment, turning the lobby into a smart box office area, giving the interior of the whole hall and the cafe a facelift, providing mobile seating and staging units, doing up the backstage area, and kitting the hall out with some great lighting and sound.
Classes, the market and other events will continue as usual as we have been careful to ensure that all our valued community provision will be maintained and won’t be affected by the install and refurbishment, or the new venue.
We will be ensuring that there will be training in the use of the light and sound for local groups and volunteers, that local community groups and entertainers will be prioritised in booking the hall as a venue, and eventually we are hoping to provide future employment opportunities at the hall.
The next stage of this endeavour is to apply for some more funding to do up the outside of the building, and to help sustain and market the venue so we can attract great live acts and a broad range of entertainment to Lampeter, from traditional to cutting edge, jazz to classical, pop to agitprop, pantomime to Shakespeare, ballet to hip hop, youth drama to musicals, movies to catwalks, choirs to heavy metal, and anything and everything exciting, relevant and appealing to us here in Lampeter and beyond.
It’s going to take time to achieve, but the dream started today. Huge thanks to Lampeter Town Council, Ceredigion Council, and the EU/Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme for the faith and the funds!
